Where do we live?
We roam in the Cloud
Where everything is stored
And queried
Here…
The books we read no longer are our own
The music we stream does not belong to us
Software is timed to re-payment
We have licences
We don’t own
They expire with our subscription
That allows us to use
We inhabit a realm of connections
Of online transactions
A world of recommendations
Responding to our behaviour
Thus, good for us
Whether we like it or not
Reduced to data-points
From which we are reconstructed
Into what algorithms believe we are
An unnuanced amalgam of
Usage, likes and dislikes
Not who we are
Our landlords rule the Cloud
They collect our rental for transience
In which we have become ‘the Product’
We move from platform to platform
Where everything seems free
Yet nothing is
Despite their appearance
Bits and bytes serve our re-assembly
Feed our curiosity
Mould our neuroplasticity
Knowing ourselves better than we do
Are we citizens, or
Have we become the transitory
Residents of the Cloud?
From which we get evicted
If we don’t pay our rent?
A world I inhabit
That moulds
Yet inspires
Excites and
Makes me
Even more curious
Despite…
This post too
Being captured
In the
Never-ending Cloud
